Motus Construction is a licensed and insured general contracting firm servicing the Midwest, with extensive experience in the Chicagoland, Indianapolis, and Baltimore submarkets. Motus began as the internal construction department of Pangea Properties and continued to grow naturally in to its own company, offering the construction services, processes, and relationships, developed over the course of 10 years, to other building owners.
Motus Construction has overseen over 400+ multi-family rehab projects, totaling over $250MM in construction, since its inception in 2009. Motus has established best practices in the industry and has streamlined the rehabilitation process, encompassing the full scope of apartment building construction services.

Chief Executive Officer
Pete Martay joined Pangea in 2009 as the company’s fifth employee and currently serves as CEO and Chief Investment Officer. Prior to joining Pangea, Pete served as Vice President at Bernstein Global Wealth Management from 2005 to 2009. He also worked as an associate for Chicago-based private equity firm, Glencoe Capital from 2002 to 2004. Pete started his career in investment banking at Deutsche Bank, as part of the Leveraged Finance Group. He received his B.B.A. from the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business. In his free time, Pete enjoys fly fishing, hiking, skiing, and spending time with his wife and kids.
Chief Operating Officer
Derek Reich joined Pangea Properties in 2012 and is currently Chief Operating Officer. In that role, Derek oversees Pangea’s operational strategy teams as well as third party management and construction. Prior to joining Pangea, Derek worked in various roles at the Superfund Group, including overseeing trade execution and managing broker relationships. Derek received his B.A. from the University of Chicago and his law degree from The John Marshall Law School. In his free time Derek enjoys traveling, playing basketball, and spending time with his family.
Senior Project Manager
Justin graduated from the University of Illinois with a Master of Architecture degree in 2011 and joined Pangea Properties as a Project Manager the following August. Combining an educational background in architectural design with 7 years of experience of multi-family rehab, Justin is a well-rounded asset to the team. As a LEED Accredited Professional, he is also able to incorporate sensible design practices in to any scale of project.
John has helped oversee the Capex development of Pangea’s Indianapolis and Baltimore markets while also managing Motus Construction in those markets. He is responsible for total project management including creating and controlling budgets, negotiating with sub-contractors, working with city officials, and providing day to day communication with the client. John has successfully managed the rehabilitation of several apartment communities as well as hundreds of homes in the Indianapolis and Baltimore markets.
Oscar joined Pangea Properties 5 years ago with a bachelor's degree in Business Management and has 7 years construction experience. Oscar has managed a mix of single, and multi-family rehab projects for Pangea and Motus . A team player, Oscar holds an excellent track record of strong working relationships with owners, architects, and subcontractors, resulting in successful construction experiences.
